Qalecchi Netwana
Part of the small but not insignificant Teruvian community in Rene, Qalecchi moved north with her father and sisters when she was young due to her father’s work (ostensibly with The Three Flames). After striking up a strong friendship and later relationship with Lau Shamet, Qalecchi joined the team at Velvet.
Lau Shamet
A half-Edaran born in Perdanza, Lau and her mother fled the fighting in the lost lands during the heart of the war, settling in a small fishing village just south of Rene. Quickly working her way up through the ranks at Velvet, Lau now holds a manager-level in-house position along with partner Qalecchi and has been able to buy a new house for her mother.
Yro and Yatzon Veso
Little is known about the past of Yro (EE-ro) and Yatzon Veso, apart from their involvement in the war. Rumors speak of connections to the Black Wind, a legion of freedom-fighter extremists, but these are just one among the many rumors about the Old City’s many mysterious people.
Jaz Sjellmar
A Rayksburg-born icelander, Jaz Sjellmar left a family legacy in the fur trade for the lights, dancing, and decadence of the Pit. Now one of the Velvet training staff, Jaz spends little time on active duty, focusing instead on education, support, and guidance for other members of the team.
Vela de Rayne
Named for the island of Rayne upon which she was raised, Vela, like many Sestrans due to the harsh nature of the seas, did not know her shipbound mother or father. Setting out from Rayne to explore the world, Vela has settled in the Old City for the time being, where she is training as a working girl, though often keeps her options open to answer the call of the sea once more.
Wayver de Rayne
A bootlegger-turned-bartender, Wayver de Rayne’s skill and dexterity as an aquatic, along with his easygoing demeanor and good looks made him a rising star in the world of the Old City’s food and beverage scene. Counting Eclipse on his pedigree, an honor reserved for the certain few, Wayver settled for the more steady work as Velvet’s head bartender, though he remains on call for distinguished events throughout the Old City organized by Eclipse’s Mijlar family.
Known unofficially among Velvet staff as “the Pit’s Most Ineligible Bachelor,” Wayver self-identifies as asexual, though not for the attempts of much of the Pit staff and customer base.
Pors Mendea
A fourth-generation Old City resident, Pors and the Mendea family are part of a cohort often referred to as the heart of the old city. Traditionally unaffiliated from the crime families, the Mendea family are involved in various small business and philanthropic ventures like the Haven, as well as Pit security. Referred to by many as a neutral, stabilizing force in the Old City, Pors and his family in many ways represent some of the ‘true’ Old City residents, drawing their roots directly from the land around the Old City. Despite the occasional disputes that break out throughout the Old City, Pors welcomes the colorful variety of living in the port city, though he has debated moving elsewhere to retire.
May Di Karragesh
Little is known about Velvet’s elegant owner beside her tremendous extranatural power, which often corresponds to political power among the Freemen, her connection to the wild, and her apparent agelessness. Though longevity is not uncommon among extranaturals, particularly lifeweavers like May, her presence as leader of Velvet has endured through decades enough to make her seem almost a fundamental part of the Old City.
Fiercely loyal and protective of those who she claims as family, and skilled in her navigation of Old City politics, it was May who successfully won BC’s freedom from the Machine King in the years after the war, though the reasons and circumstances behind their interaction remains shrouded in mystery.
Fudge the Woolimons
One night in the heart of the war, when blockades, attacks on the river, and tensions were at an all time high, this woolimons made its way from its natural habitat hundreds of miles upriver through the heart of Edaran control, arriving on the shores of the Old City confused and hungry, but otherwise no worse for wear.
Fudge’s thousand-mile-run, something not even the top smugglers of the Four Families often risked, and the lack of any apparent reason for this swim, made him an instantly loved figure around the Pit, where he was adopted by the Velvet girls. Unshakably positive personality, and needless defiance of the Edarans: the perfect mascot for the Old City.
Fudge is currently unaware of his fame and notoriety, and prefers bright colors, belly rubs, and strange smelling foods.
